About Us

Delhi Cemetery, INC DBA Delhi Masonic Cemetery is one of the oldest and most historical cemeteries in Delhi. It serves as the final resting place for many of the community’s most historical figures and beloved community members. It was originally formed and operated by Deerfield Masonic Lodge #120 more formerly known as Delhi Masonic Lodge #120. It was formed to have a protected site to ensure a place of proper burial for loved ones. The lodge was originally charted as the Deerfield Lodge #120 in 1854 and this could serve as time stamp to date the organization of this cemetery as what we know it today. This lodge has a rich history in helping to found the community. It is recorded that several of the church bodies here used the masonic lodge as their meeting place before they could raise the funds to have their own building. This information helps to explain the need for the lodge to found a cemetery due to being one of the oldest organizations found in this settlement. Around 30 years ago this cemetery became its own entity governed by a board of interested members and has been run by a corporation president since this transition. Since that time the cemetery has faced many unforeseen challenges. Maps and records being destroyed, death in management, economic struggles, limited donations, plot owners not paying upkeep fees, plot owners not designating the next generation to pay up keep, and lack of interest to name a few struggles. This cemetery has now been professionally remapped and ground penetrating radar has been used to identify all unmarked graves. This information is now available on this website. Please take the time to claim your plots and check for spelling errors. There have often been comments made about how this cemetery was mismanaged in the past and that is far from the truth. Management of the past and masonic interest are the only reasons it has survived as long as it has. We are very fortunate for all of the previous management as I have seen the rising cost of upkeep they faced and how they managed to work it out with so little resources. The cemetery has been very fortunate over the last few years to have had numerous donations to fund the projects necessary to the longevity of this operation. I would like to make special mention of the following families; Cornelius, Maxwell, Franklin, Anderson, and McEacharn. I know that I have forgotten to mention someone, but thank you to the many others who have donated and continue to donate This organization is now a 5013c nonprofit organization and can accept tax deductible donations. – Doug Craig
